DUCK HUNT

Ducks burst out of the grass. You have three shots. A very smug dog is watching. An unofficial 8-bit tribute to the classic arcade shooter, made for Windows. Your mouse is the light gun, the crosshair is your hope, and the dog is the judge. You will not like the dog.

What you get

- GAME A: one duck at a time, three shots. Simple, honest, humbling.

- GAME B: two ducks at once, still three shots. Line them up and one bullet can take both. Or panic. Both are valid strategies.

- Three kinds of duck: black (common), blue (less common), red (rare and worth a lot more). The dog holds up the exact duck you shot, in its own colour. Yes, we checked.

- Rounds of 10 ducks. Hit enough of them to advance, miss too many and it is

- GAME OVER: The dog will laugh. He is allowed to. It is in his contract.

- PERFECT bonus for a flawless round, up to 30,000 points.

- It gets harder: ducks fly faster, escape sooner, and from the later rounds your target area shrinks. Round 20 and up asks for 10 out of 10. Good luck.

- Up to round 99, for the truly stubborn.

- 256 x 240 pixel art scaled to any window, with full screen on F.

- Chiptune sound effects and jingles synthesised in real time. No audio files, just maths with a sense of humour.

Controls

- Mouse: aim and shoot (left button)

- Up / Down: choose the game on the title screen

- P: pause (for doorbells, children, and sudden shame)

- M: sound on / off

- F: full screen

Tips from a man who has lost to the dog many times

- Lead the shot a little. Ducks do not stop for you.

- Three shots is enough if you aim. A wasted shot cannot be taken back.

- In GAME B go for the more valuable duck first (red > blue > black).

- Once you have the required hits, relax and chase the PERFECT bonus.

Technical stuff

- Windows 7 or newer, any CPU of the last decade, no 3D card needed

- Small unsigned program: if your antivirus complains, add the folder to its exceptions
